About Us

Safety Squared is an independent safety engineering consultancy specialising in all aspects of fall protection and safety at height. This discipline covers the engineered protective measures that facilitate safe access and prevent falls from a height, including: fall-restraint, fall-arrest, work-positioning, rope access, suspended access, rescue, emergency-descent, powered climb-assist, walkways, stairways and ladders.

Safety Squared has been operating in the UK since March 1995 and has served clients in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, USA, Africa, Singapore, Japan and Australia. Our senior partner, Mr David Riches, has been serving the fall protection and safe access at height industry since 1988.

Our principle activites include advising manufacturers, installers, users and specifiers of fall protection equipment and systems, and technical support to enforcement agencies. We also actively participate in scientific and technical research and in the generation of standards.

Our Team

David Riches BSc(Hons)

Founder

David has been serving the fall protection and safety at height industry since 1988. He was introduced to the subject of falls from height in an unexpected way, when he accidentally fell from the top of a Chinook helicopter, whilst he was serving in the RAF. David comments: “having a fall may not seem to be of any advantage in some peoples’ eyes but on the contrary, when it comes to designing safety equipment, testing it and advising organisations who are involved with work at height, it gives me special insight and makes me want to produce the safest solution”.

Nathan Riches BSc(Hons)

Junior Partner

Nathan joined Safety Squared in 2013 and initially took responsibility for accounting and business administration. He subsequently became involved in the CAD department, producing 3D models of prototypes and engineering drawings. Nathan comments: “Working at Safety Squared is very interesting and worthwhile, as we are involved with saving people’s lives”.
